FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. How can I register for an upcoming trip, series or activity?
If you are interested in participating on a Recreation Without Borders (RWB) sponsored trip you may call 360-766-7109 to register or drop us an email at
info@recreationwithoutborders.com. However if you would like to participate on an Anacortes Parks and Recreation, Marysville Parks and Recreation or Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation trip you will need to contact them directly and register through their office. Their numbers are: Anacortes 360-293-1918, Marysville 360-363-8400 and Mount Vernon 360-336-6215. If you are interested in attending or participating in the All Comers Track Meets you will need to contact the Burlington Parks and Recreation office at 360-755-9649.
2. When is the registration fee due?
All fees are due at the time of registration. "Seats" or "spots" are not held without full payment. Registration deadlines are usually 5 to 7 days prior to the date of the program. However early deadlines that are usually associated with ticket purchases and/or hotel reservations are typically 30 days prior to the trip.
3. How can I pay for a program?
For RWB sponsored trips you may pay by cash, check, VISA, MasterCard or Discover. For payments to Anacortes, Marysville or Mount Vernon please refer to their methods of payment and contact the department directly.
4. What happens if a trip is sold out?
In the event that a trip or program is sold out we will create a waiting list. If a registered participant withdraws within the regular refund timelines we will contact the first person on the waitlist and continue down the list until the program reaches capacity.
5. What happens if I want/need to withdraw from a program?
RWB requires minimum levels of enrollment to be met in order to run activities. Programs that fail to meet minimum enrollment may be cancelled. If a program is cancelled because of low enrollment, a full refund will be made. For trips or programs a refund is made if a request is made a minimum of 5 working days prior to the start of the offering. A $10.00 administrative fee will be charged per offering. For ticketed trips i.e. sporting events, theater performances, and/or any offering that requires the purchase of a ticket prior to the trip date or requires the reservation of a room or other similar reservation, a refund is not guaranteed unless a suitable replacement (waitlist or new participant) is available to assume your registration. In most cases tickets are purchased 30 days prior to the event date. Credits, in lieu of cash refunds, will be given if the trip was originally paid with a credit card. RWB reserves the right to review all refund requests. For refunds associated with contracted agencies, decisions will be made based on individual agency policies.
6. I signed up for a hike and the forecast is calling for heavy rain. Are you still going?
Yes! We hope for ideal conditions on each outing, but you never know what the Pacific Northwest will be like. In other words, the weather can be unpredictable. It is important that you come prepared with the necessary clothing/supplies. If we must make changes in our plans because of inclement weather or poor road conditions we will let you know as soon as possible. All trips are assumed to be "on" unless participants have been notified by RWB or parks and recreation staff.
7. What paperwork will I need to present in order to participate in an offering?
Upon completing the various RWB or agency registration processes, all participants should receive a registration form, receipt and medical information/liability release form. Participants will need to complete and sign those forms and return them to the trip leader prior to departure. Please note: The registration form as well as the medical information/liability release form can also be found on this website under "Forms" and downloaded using Adobe Acrobat.
8. What other paperwork should I expect?
Participants who are registering for outdoor adventures (hiking, snowshoeing, rafting, etc.) should receive a Suggested Supplies List in addition to the above mentioned paperwork. Individuals that are registering for overnight adventures should receive a Suggested Supplies List as well as a Trip Itinerary. If you do not receive these items, please contact the agency you registered with and/or RWB for more information.
9. What about Canadian adventures...what do I need to know or bring?
As of June 1, 2009 all US citizens aged 18 years and older are required to present one of the following documents in order to cross the border: current US Passport, current US Passport Card, current Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) or a Trusted Traveler Program Card (NEXUS). Children under the age of 18 may also present any of the above mentioned documents or an original or copy of his/her birth certificate. If the child is traveling without a parent or guardian (i.e. on a youth trip) a completed and specific trip permission form must be filled out and signed.
Visitors to Canada may not bring in any fresh fruit or vegetables, or any type of weapons including personal protection spray.
If you have specific questions regarding a trip to Canada feel free to drop us an email or call us to discuss your concerns further.
10. I am interested in organizing a private outing for family and friends. What do I need to do?
RWB loves organizing private trips! First, check your schedules and decide on a couple of dates that may work for your group. Next contact RWB via email or phone and see if we have those dates available. We now own 2 12-passenger vans and can accomodate larger groups and/or offer 2 separate trips on the same day. You may also take a look at the "Event Calendar" under the "Upcoming Trips" header on this website to see if any trips are already planned for your dates. After confirming a date we can then quote you a price for your trip and/or help you plan your outing. From a Girls Night Out to Mariners Ballgame to Moonlight Snowshoeing we can help you and your family and friends have a great adventure together!
11. What is required to reserve a private trip?
After a trip date, destination and fee has been agreed upon, a $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required for all day trips. A $250.00 non-refundable deposit is required on all overnight trips. Upon completion of the registration process, the deposit will then be credited towards the total trip fee.
