The following trips are offered through Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation (MVPR).  Registration opens for Winter/Spring trips and programs on Wednesday, January 4th.

Winter Snowshoe Fun
Back by popular demand…Always wanted to try the wonderful sport of snowshoeing?  Well here’s your chance while getting a glimpse of how beautiful the surrounding Cascade Mountains can be in wintertime!  Perfect for the beginner (or seasoned veteran), today’s outing will cover basic snowshoeing techniques and practice simple winter safety skills while exploring gentle slopes and trails.  Fee includes snowshoes, poles, and any trail fees.  Please note:  Exact location of the hike will depend upon recent snowfall and current weather and road conditions.  A complete supplies list will be available at registration.  If time allows we will stop for a no-host treat on the way home.

Full Moon Snowshoe Adventure near Mt. Baker
Yes you read it correctly!  Join us as we venture into a winter wonderland on this full moon evening.  We will provide the snowshoes, poles and headlamps, you provide the enthusiasm and sense of adventure!  We’ll head north to the Mt. Baker Ski Area and explore the peace and tranquility by the light (hopefully!) of a full moon.  Then on the way home we’ll stop by Milano’s for a delicious dinner.  A detailed supplies list will be available at registration.  Bring money for dinner and don’t forget your camera!  Hurry…sign up soon…this trip has sold out every year!

Best of Seattle Foodie Tour
Always a sell out…We’ll start  our day off with a tour of Theo Chocolates, the only organic, fair trade, bean-to-bar chocolate factory in the US and located right here in Washington!   We’ll learn all about the complex process of making chocolate (and sample numerous confections!)  Next we’ll continue on our journey south as we visit a plethora of diverse and interesting food stores including those specializing in teas, coffees, spices, baked goods, imported delicacies, organic products and so much more!  Your taste buds will never be quite the same!  Bring money for a no-host lunch and purchases.  Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and closed-toe walking shoes.

Best of BC’s Beautiful Gardens
British Columbia is well known for its exquisite gardens and wondrous parks.  Today you will visit four separate locations each complete with amazing collections of flowers and plants, quarry gardens, large arboretums and more.  Stops include Queen Elizabeth Park, Bloedel Conservatory, UBC Botanical Gardens and the Nitrobe Memorial Garden.   Bring a sack lunch (no fresh fruits or veggies please) and drink to enjoy at one of the locations.  Participants may also bring money for additional snacks and purchases.  Wear warm, weather appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes.  Please note:  Proof of citizenship is required to cross the border (current Passport, enhanced drivers license or NEXUS card required).
